I’m Peter Aylmer, an experienced walker and outdoor writer. On this website I’m sharing more than 50 years of walking experience.
You’ll find day-by-day trail memories, from lowland walks to my own multi-day routes across each of the three nations.
And then aged 62 I learned to backpack, so it’s never too late!

In July 2025 I completed all the 316 Hewitts of England and Wales – the 2000ft meaningful summits. They range from classics like Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and Scafell Pike to lesser-known, out-of-the-way hills such as Drygarn Fawr in mid-Wales and Round Hill in the north Pennines. I’m also the author of the Cicerone guides to London and Essex. In January 2021 I launched my own series of Trailman guidebooks.
